USIU remained in contention for a home semifinal in the Championship after beating league leaders Catholic Monks 3-8 at Monks on Sat March 30, 2019.

Fred Okoth scored the only try of the game with Eliud Mulla adding a penalty. The points ensured USIU Martials completed a double over their Varsity foes having seen them off 15-0 (game abandoned after 65 minutes but later awarded) on match day four on 8 December, 2018.

USIU now have 49 points as Monks picked a losing bonus to stay top with 54. With Western Bulls losing 8-9 to host Kisumu on Saturday, Echulusi stay just two points above USIU heading to the last match day on Saturday 6 April, 2019. Kisumu had tied Bulls 10-10 during match day 4 in the second Saturday of December 2018.

Top two teams at the end of the season will be promoted to the Kenya Cup while bottom two will be relegated to the nationwide leagues.

Kisumu RFC picked four points to stay fourth with 38 points as MMUST’s 17-3 win over Kitale saw them secure a playoff spot. With 38 points they are six points above both sixth placed Kisii RFC(32) and seventh placed Mombasa RFC(32).

Kisii beat UOE 14-3 while Mombasa saw off Egerton Wasps 31-0 meaning the last slot will be between these two with Mombasa set to head to South Coast Pirates and Kisii visit MMUST.

Ngong RFC were relegated after losing 0-23 to South Coast Pirates who moved out of relegation zone to 10th with 23 points, three behind Egerton Wasps and four above Kitale.
