Rugby Union and Rugby League are set to run concurrently at the newly launched Samburu 7s set for July 2022 in Samburu County.

Kenya Rugby League federation on Tuesday launched the ‘most exciting 7s tournament of the year’ combining the safari experience with top-class rugby with over 80 teams competing in three categories.

KRLF director Kevin Adhere said, “the three-day tournament will see three different competitions with Rugby League featuring African semi-professional teams.”

“In the middle of the Kalama Conservancy, we are building three top-quality pitches, a festival village with entertainment every day, bars and food outlets, medical facilities, stalls selling essentials and souvenirs as well as a large team camping area.”

World Sports Safaris, Samburu County and KRLF are joining hands to deliver one of its a kind tournament.

“Our goal is to provide sustainable resources and to leave zero environmental footprints. Samburu 7s will build 2 part-time pitches (allowing us to renovate them in the future) and a permanent pitch which together with other developers will create a Centre of Excellence to be used by the rugby community in Kenya,” said World Sports Safaris CEO Mike Mulroy.

“Three days of truly global rugby featuring teams from all over the world on three purposes built pitches in the middle of the Savana, who else can offer your team such a magical experience?”

"Be part of the most spectacular rugby tournament in the world.

After two days of relaxation, partying, safari and excursions, the large Social Tournament starts three days of rugby competition, followed by our very special Elite Level competition for the "Rhino Cup" and the "Small Nations Cup" for developing national teams."

"Experience the wildlife first hand with planned excursions into the heart of the bush and the wildlife reserve. Trek up Mount Kenya, mountain bike through the hills or take it easy with a Land Rover safari across the plains, all included in your package.

Fancy getting away from the site in your down time? Book one of the extra trips to watch the elephant come to drink at the nearby Ewaso Ngiro river, head over to the rhino sanctury or take an aerial tour of the plains from the nearby airstrip."

"As part of the package you and your team will truly get up and personal with some of the most endangered species on the planet in a number of conservation projects, working with everything from rhinos to giraffes. Create shelter for orphaned animals, join in with the feeding and see this amazing work first hand."
