The Kenya Cup second teams league – Eric Shirley Shield that has in recent years been played under the Kenya format will this time round be played under a whole new format.
The 14 participating clubs, largely made up of players from Kenya Cup sides has been split into three and will be played in three different regions.
Newbie The ten clubs in Nairobi and its immediate periphery make up Region A and B that is composed of five teams each. Four teams to the West, and outside Nairobi will form Region C.
2014/15 Champions Impala Boks and the team they beat in last year’s final KCB Cubs will highlight Pool ‘A’ that also has Nondies II, Blak Blad II and Mean Machine Ninjas.
Strathmore Catullus, Mwamba II, Homeboyz II, Harlequins II and newbie Thika II make up Pool B.
Last year’s beaten semi finalists Nakuru II and Kabras Sugar II, as well as Western Calves and newcomers Bungoma Sharks II are in Region C.
According to fixtures shared out to clubs by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), the Eric Shirley Shield kicks off on Saturday 21 November with six games on the cards, two in each of the regions.
KCB II and Impala II will host Blak Blad II and Nondies II respectively in Region A as Strathmore II and Mwamba II take on Quins II and Homeboyz II, correspondingly. For lack of an opponent, Mean Machine II and Thika II will have a rest on the first day.
In Region C, Nakuru II will be home to Kabras II as Western Bulls II face off with Sharks II.
According to the fixtures, no knockouts have been factored in at the close of the preliminary games on 9 April 2016.
