The 2015/2016 Kenya Cup league will kick off on 21st November 2015 immediately after the conclusion of Rugby Africa 2016 Olympic qualifiers under a new format.

Unlike what was the case last season where all 14 teams played at least one game, for a total of 13 games for the season, pooling has been adopted for the new season.

Cross over The 14 participating clubs have been placed in two conferences; ‘A’ and ‘B’ where each team will play each other twice – Home and Away.

Further, each team from one pool will face teams in the other pool at least once in what is being referred to as cross over matches. The two games; pools and cross over matches could be played alongside each other.

However, as Raga House has learnt, nothing is finalized just yet and participating teams will go into a meeting on Saturday to further discuss the nitty-gritty ahead of the new season as not all are home and dry with the proposed format.

According to the pooling, Champions KCB, Strathmore Leos, Homeboyz, Western Bulls, Mean Machine, Mwamba and Thika RFC who returned to the top tier after a 37 year hiatus make up Pool ‘A’ while 2014/15 runners up Kabras Sugar, Nakuru RFC, Impala Saracens, Nondies RFC, Kenya Harlequins, Blak Blad the promoted Bungoma Sharks fall in Pool ‘B’.

Orientation From the draft fixtures sent earlier to clubs, the first round of games will see Champions invite returnees Thika RFC to the league for the first time since 1978 as Strathmore Leo take on UoN’s Mean Machine in an all varsity affair.

Mwamba RFC will have a home date with Western Bulls as Nondies take on Menengai Cream Homeboyz.

2014 Kenya Cup debutants have been tasked with the task of giving 2015 debutant Bungoma Sharks orientation to the league. Nakuru RFC, whose two season reign as Kenya Cup kings ended at the close of the last season will be home to Blak Blad while the last fixture will be a game to behold; a Ng’ong Road derby between Impala Saracens and Kenya Harlequins.
