Nationwide leagues are set for the final round of preliminary matches on matchday 12, Sat March 2, 2019 as sides seek to secure a place in next month’s quarterfinals.
In Nairobi, Stingers and Daystar Falcons have already secured a place in the quarters with the remaining two from the Universities side set to be decided between AP, Farus Rugby and KCA University.
AP are set to host KCA in the biggest game of the matchday as Farus heads to MMU.
Northern Suburbs, Swara and Shamas have also booked quarterfinal slots from the clubs side with the last slot set to be filled by either Vandals(4) or Makueni(5).
Vandals head to KCAA Stormers while Makueni will visit Masaku RFC. Any win for Vandals(23) will end any Makueni’s(21) dreams of making through.
It’s a close one in Central as only three points separate Kiambu(1) and Embu(5). As it stands, no one’s assured of a top four place. Kiambu lead with 38, MKU Thika are second with 37, same with third placed Chuka, JKUAT are fourth with 35 while Embu also have 35.
Embu go into the matchday outside the home-quarterfinal slots and a win over 11th placed Kimathi will see them enter the top four since JKUAT(4) are set to host Chuka(3). Embu also have a pending game that was postponed to 9th March.
The other big game in Central that will greatly affect the final standings is the one featuring leaders Kiambu and second placed MKU Thika.
Meru, Murang’a and Zetech sit between sixth and eighth but Nanyuki, 9th, could sneak in on the last matchday may they beat Murang’a and hope Zetech drops points in Karatin.
It’s already sealed in Western as Jaramogi(36), Maseno(33), Bungoma(27) and Citam Kisumu(24) occupy the first four positions while Mbale, Vihiga, Shieywe and Siaya take up the rest. Ninth placed Webuye RFC cannot catch up and so the last matchday will be to decide who finishes where.
In Rift-Valley, Moi University, Eldoret RFC, Kabarak University, Nandi RFC, Laikipia Uni, Nakuru Kiti, Molo and KPA Eldoret are all through to quarters. Kericho missed out for being bottom with -7 points. Postponed match between Laikipia and Eldoret will be played on March 9.
The Nairobi, Western and Central quarters will be held on Saturday March 23 with the semis set to follow on March 30 and eventually the regional final on April 6.
