Menengai Oilers stunned defending champions KCB 17-24 to reach the Kenya Cup final on Saturday March 5, 2022 at the KCB Sports Club, Nairobi.
It will be the first time in six years KCB won't be in the final with Oilers making history to reach their first ever Kenya Cup final since their promotion in 2018 from the Championship.
Menengai Oilers will play Kabras Sugar in the final on Saturday in Kakamega.
Four successful penalty kicks by Geoffrey Ominde saw Oilers lead 7-12 at the interval with Darwin Mukidza converting his own try for KCB. The bankers kicked off the second half on a high going 14-12 up after Mukidza converted Vincent Onyala's five-pointer but Oilers restored the lead (14-18) as Ominde drilled two three-pointes.
Two back to back penalties from both sides saw Oilers' lead shoot to 17-21 before Ominde's boot did the job yet again for 17-24 for the full-time whistle.
