2016 Kenya Secondary School Sports Association(KSSSA) Rugby 7s champions Laiser Hill seek to win back the national title when they get action going at this year's competition that start at Hill School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County on Thursday 26 July.
Laiser Hill, Nakuru Day, Friends Bwake and Kipsombe are representing Rift Valley province with the Kevin Wambua-coached side being one of the favorites to win the title. They are banded in Pool A with Muhuri Muchiri, St. Mary's Yala and Kipsombe Secondary.
They face stiff competition from Nairobi Province duo of Dagoretti High and Muhuri Muchiri as well as Nyanza's Maseno School, St.Mary's Yala and Western's Chavakali Boys and St.Peter's Mumias.
Speaking at Hill School on Tuesday morning, Laiser Hill captain Victor Rogena, who was part of the squad that beat Upper Hill in the final in 2016, says his side has prepared well for the national games.
"We are prepared well and ready to take on the teams. We stand a chance of taking the national title and go to the East Africa games."
"Yes there is a challenge but since we've been training and giving our best we hope to get the win." "Last year we didn't qualify for national so this year our focus is to bag the title."
In an earlier interview his Coach Wambua said; "Pool A is not an easy one. Muhuri Muchiri are the East African champions and St. Mary's Yala are a quality rugby side while Kipsombe are not predictable. The boys have trained well and are looking forward to the challenge,"
"We aim to the win all our group games and make it to the knockouts where we will treat all games like a final." he added
The three top teams will qualify for East Africa games that kick off on August 7 in Rwanda.
