The inaugural Koitalel 7s, as hosted by Nandi RFC with assistance from the affiliated Moi University RFC, is set to be held at the Nandi Bears Club in Nandi County on 13-14 October, 2018.
16 teams are targeted to take part in the tournament that will set the base for a cultural week from 15-20 October as Nandi County celebrates its historical heroes such as Koitalel Arap Samoei, hence the tournament's name.
Tournament Director Ali Mbaraka confirmed the same as he intimated there's a good wind around the upcoming tournament as Nandi County's Sports Ministry and the Kenya Rugby Union have already sanctioned it.
"We have had several discussions with the Sports Ministry of Nandi County and they have agreed to support the initiative. We have also informed the (Kenya Rugby) Union of the tournament and they have since sanctioned it," he said
"Nandi County is preparing for its cultural week to honor its heroes and we timed the tournament to around the same time as it will be a good time to showcase the game and curtain raise the event. The tournament targets 16 teams and will be played over two days,"
"Planning for the tournament is still ongoing and more details will be shared out in due course." added Ali
Already Mtickets have been on-boarded to handle the ticketing for the event.
