Kisumu RFC are the 2019 Champions of the KRU Championship courtesy of a 5-23 win over hosts Western Bulls on Saturday May 18 at the Kakamega Showground.

To reach Championship final, Kisumu beat Catholic Monks 11-14 in last week’s semifinal while Western Bulls saw off USIU 16-22.

Kisumu ran in four tries in the lunch-time kick-off as well as adding a penalty to complete their fine season.

Boniface Okoth and Denver Audo went over in the first half with fly-half Lenny Obiero adding a three pointer to lead 13-0 at the interval. Moses Amonde and Jaycox Mwavali would add two more tries in the final half.

Bulls, the hosts, could only manage a try towards the end of the game when Allan Kasiti went over but it was too little too late.

Both Kisumu and Western Bulls are promoted to next season’s Kenya Cup. They replace Mean Machine and Strathmore Leos who were relegated in April.

During the regular season, Bulls held host Kisumu to a 10-10 draw while in the reverse fixture Kisumu outscored their hosts 9-8 at Kakamega Showground.
