Kenya Rugby Union is still lobbying to have rugby matches resume as early as January 2021, Chairman Oduor Gangla has told Raga House.
Rugby has been suspended since March due to Covid 19 but Kenya 7s has since resumed training in preparation for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Kenyan Premier League is set to resume on Saturday, Nov 28 raising questions on what’s not happening with Rugby.
“Rugby is a high-risk sport, remember that,” said Gangla. “Being a full-contact sport means we are the last on the line. We’re still lobbying to have rugby resume and actively engaging the ministry.”
“The national team is already back in training and we are now planning to have Kenya Lionesses come as soon as possible ahead of the game against Colombia probably in April.”
“It’s going to be a tough year because apart from the World Cup qualifiers these girls also have the Olympics in Japan.”
Kenya Rugby Union will unveil a strategic partnership on Thursday in Nairobi where they could provide more updates on rugby resumption.
