KCB beat Homeboyz 21-12 to win Kakamega 7s on Sunday July 21 and bag their first sevens trophy since Prinsloo 7s in 2017.

The bankers ran in three converted tries scored by former Homeboyz fly-half Johnstone Olindi, Kenya 7s international Vincent Onyala and Isaac Njoroge.

The two sides tied 7-7 at the interval after KCB’s Onyala and Homeboyz’s Collins Shikoli scored for either side but Olindi returned to hunt his former side as he took the scores to 14-7 with new signing Levy Amunga adding the extras.

The Deejayz would be penalized at their own 22 for the bankers to take advantage and score their third try. Homeboyz pulled a second try that was not converted and it was too late for a possible comeback.

To reach Cup final, Homeboyz beat Top Fry Nakuru 20-0 while KCB saw off Mwamba 19-5.

KCB had beaten MMUST 36-0, Kisii RFC 41-0 and Kabras Sugar 29-7 to top pool C with nine points. Late Saturday evening they were docked all points and relegated to challenge trophy but following a successful appeal, they were reinstated and went ahead to beat Strathmore Leos 28-12 in cup quarters, Mwamba 19-5 in cup semis and Homeboyz 21-12 in cup final.

Starthmore Leos claimed the competition’s 5th place after beating Kenya Cup side Nondies 21-12 while the Challenge trophy went to Menengai Oilers who defeated Mean Machine by 17-5.

Hosts Western Bulls had something to celebrate as they won the 13th place final after beating Kisii RFC 17-12. Kenya Harlequin, Kisii RFC, Western Bulls and Kisumu RFC were all relegated after dropping to 13th place semis.

Next week, action moves to Meru County for the Kakaberi 7s hosted by Kenya Cup side Mwamba RFC.
