Fiji wins Paris 7s

Fiji beat New Zealand 44-7 at the Stade Jean-Bouin on Sunday 2 June 2019 to win their first ever Paris 7s title.

It was their second milestone of the day having beaten USA 33-14 earlier in the day at the semis to scoop the overall HSBC World Sevens Series for the first time since the 2014/15 season and fourth overall.

To beat New Zealand, Fiji led 28-7 at half time before consolidating the win in the second half.

Three tries contiguous tries from Napolioni Bolaca - later named player of the final, Meli Derenalagi and Aminiasi Tuimaba - all converted by Bolaca - had Fiji 21-0 to the good.

A Jona Nareki try converted by Andrew Knewstubb for New Zealand that were countered by Bolaca try and conversion accounted for the first stanza.

In the second half Asaeli Tuivuaka try and Bolaca extra had Fiji 35-7 up but All Black 7s fought back to add respectability to the score line with a brace of tries from Regan Ware on either side of one by Dylan Collier, one converted, to end the game at 35-24.

Bronze for SA

In an earlier game outgoing champions South Africa settled for bronze after beating USA  24 -7.

A Perry Baker try for the Eagles converted by Madison Hughes turned out to be the perfect teaser for Bliztbokke who responded with two tries from du Plessis, and one each by Oosthuizen and Snyman. Two were converted.

Something for France, Canada, Scotland

Hosts France hammered Samoa 40-05 to win the fifth place final as Caanda dispatched Ireland 28-12 to take home the Challenge Trophy.

Relegated Japan were beaten by Scotland 31-26 in the 13th place final.

Paris 7s was the tenth and final leg of the 2018/19 season.
