Disappointing Africa 7s for Kenya as SA, Madagascar qualify for World Cup

Kenya Lionesses failed to qualify for the Sevens World Cup and Commonwealth games after losing 19-5 to Tunisia in the quarterfinals of the Women's Rugby Africa 7s in Tunisia on Saturday April 30, 2022.

The Lionesses bagged only one win in Tunisia beating Zambia 22-0 in one of the pool matches. They went down 10-7 to Uganda in the second pool game.

The Springbok Women’s Sevens and Madagascar secured Africa berths to the World Cup to be held in South Africa in September. SA Women beat Madagscar 15-14 in the final in Monastir.

The South Africans, who last competed in an international tournament in December 2019, had to dig deep for this win - which also saw them qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July - and only scored the winning try in injury time when Eloise Webb scored her only, but most important five pointer of the tournament.
