Strathmore Leos' George Ooro and Dennis Abukuse of Menengai Oilers are set to make their Kenya 7s debut at Hong Kong 7s on November 4-6 after head coach Damian McGrath named the traveling squad on Wednesday in Nairobi.

The duo joins captain Nelson Oyoo, regulars Willy Ambaka, Billy Odhiambo, Johnstone Olindi, Vincent Onyala, Bush Mwale, Daniel Taabu, and Edmund Anya for the season opener. Others are Herman Humwa of Kenya Harlequin and Kevin Wekesa of Kabras Sugar.

Shujaa, who finished 12th at the close of the 2021/22  HSBC Sevens World Series with 49 points, is in Pool D of Hong Kong 7s alongside Argentina, Canada, and Ireland.

McGrath singled out kick-offs as a key area to work on as Shujaa kicks off the new season.

"Our set-pieces improved particularly in Los Angeles which was a big plus for us," said McGrath. "Kick-offs are a concern. We can't keep giving the ball away like we've been doing. Sammy Oliech was our kicker but he's not available at this point. It's an issue we are working on, the kickers are practicing and we'll keep working."

On pool D, McGrath said; "Ireland came third at the World Cup. Argentina has become a top side. It's a difficult start. I think we should focus on the debutants coming to the squad and the great squad they are bringing to the squad we have,"

"Let's hope when we get to Hong Kong we can push all these things to the side and hope there's light at the end of the tunnel for the new generation."

Series champions Australia headline Pool A which also features their Trans Tasman neighbors New Zealand, Samoa and hosts Hong Kong while South Africa is in Pool B with France, Great Britain, and Uruguay who debut on the series as a core side.

Fiji are top seeds in Pool C with USA, Spain and Japan completing the pool composition.
